Yum!

I'm not sure who taught him to lick the bowl, but cleaning spaghetti sauce out of baby hair really sucks. Too bad its too frickin cute.

Colby...

Son,

you will gain all your wisdom from me. Now isn't that a scary thought? Especially coming from the lady who taught you the most important skill of all. When daddy goes into the bathroom and shuts the door, I taught you to wiggle your fingers under the door while saying "hi dad!"

You're welcome.

Accident Prone

Ok, the story for this boo-boo. He was toddling down the hall and tripped over daddy's foot, head first into the corner of the door jam. Immediately, it was the size of a golfball, with bruising right away. It keeps swelling and swelling. It looks horrible, and its going to look even worse tomorrow.
Don't mind the stains on his shirt, apparently M & M's are good bribes for boo-boos.

Eye Candy for Grandma

Let the swooning begin.

Little Boy

I had my first studio photo shoot this past weekend, and as I was setting up, The Colbster wanted to give the chair a try. Happy face!

There was a little house...

There was a little house that was full of chocolate. Every day when mommy gets home, he gets to open a door. He loves opening them and finding candy in them. After we put him down to enjoy his candy, he'll want to climb back up. He'll point and exclaim "THAT!"

Its a mystery

The Crime scene:

Somebody climbed the Christmas tree during the night and flattened the top branches. The tree resides between the couch and a stack of toys, so it was possible for anyone to climb and jump.

The (usual) suspects:

Harley:
Looks suspicious, standing in close proximity to the tree, hiding behind her paw

Faustie:
Won't look you in the eye. Looks repentant.

Colby, alias- the Colbster:
Smirking, has working toy knowledge, enjoys irritating mom & dad when they're not looking.

So the question is, Whodunnit?

He's growing up.

In this video, Colby shows three of his latest skills: walking, saying kitty, and irritating the crap out of the cat. He does all three pretty well.

He left me no choice

So before halloween, Colby got a ghost towel that was adorable. I just wanted a simply, adorable picture of Colby in it. I mean, he didn't even have to be smiling. However, Colby hates hats. Nothing can be on his head. If he can't get it off, he has a panic attack. Its horrible. So the ghost towel wasn't going over very well.

So he gave me no choice. If he wouldn't let me take the picture with the towel on, then I had to take a picture with the towel off.

In 10-15 years, my son will hate me for posting this. Awww, sweet revenge.

Mom, you suck!

I am pretty much horrible at this now, aren't I?

In all fairness, Colby's been sick, so we haven't done much anything. Plus as the semester winds down, we have zero time anymore!

So I will update this today in just a few minutes. Gotta go find some pictures. It'll be quick, I promise!

Ouch!

So I stayed home with Colby all day today because he was sick. So when daddy came home, he made dinner and took care of the Colbster for me. He called me from the kitchen and said "please come get your son, I'm dealing with really hot things right now and he's in the way. He was making pasta, and he had just dumped it into the colander to drain. Colby was standing at his feet as I entered the kitchen. DH moved the colander to the counter to finish preparing dinner, and Colby was splashed with the boiling hot water as it passed over his head. He starts screaming in pain as I run to him, and try to get the random droplets of his head, where I assumed was the most painful. He continued to scream and scream, it took about 4 minutes to calm him. When we took off his shirt to give him his dinner, we saw why. It had got onto his sleeve, and kept the burning hot water against his skin. I am so sad right now!

Sick

Our little guy is crazy sick right now. Its kinda gross. He has an endlessly runny nose, with snot everywhere. And the snot bugs him, so he rubs it around his face trying to get it off. Seriously, his hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes are plastered with cruddy snot.

No picture today though... doesn't that make you grateful?

Puppies!

Grandpa great has puppies, so on Halloween we went to visit them! Colby has never been around puppies before, he's more familiar with dogs the size of horses. So to have 9 wiggly puppies crawling all over you and licking you can be quite overwhelming!
Colby and the mama. He loved being around her.

Freaked out when this one jumped all over him... I think this is the one that completely knocked him over with his kisses.

and then they just kept coming...and coming...
and coming...
and coming.
Poor Colby!

Proud Mama Moment

So I've come to terms with it. Colby is a mini-Daddy. In looks, attitude, and personality. It could be a lot worse, I'm sure. However, there is one thing that I share with my son. Colby is a lover of books. Yup, this is a mommy trait. I've always devoured books, reading everyday for hours. I see this in Colby so much. He's been able to turn pages since he was 5 months old. He will point at objects in the book and try to name them. He'll turn each page, and once done, he'll start over. And honestly, if there was just one thing I could pass down to my son, that would be it. Makes me soooo happy!

Walking!

Colby took his first steps on Halloween! He's been attempting to walk for awhile now, but has never ever let go of us willingly. Now he thinks its the funnest game to walk back and forth between us. I think its so adorable. What a brave and strong little boy!

Cell Phone Halloween Pics

So isn't that ironic? I buy a super nice camera, and then start using my lame-o cell phone as my camera. Ah, well, blurry, fuzzy pictures are better than no pictures, right? RIGHT?!?!?
Anyways, Halloween is such a big celebration at our house. It comes from Grandma M, who has ALWAYS loved the holiday. In fact, she's bought at least 45 Halloween-related items for Colby in the past year. Its just how she works.
So on my way out the door, I captured some of the Halloween-y goodness of our home.
This first one is a craft Colby made at pre-school. They dipped their feet in paint and put googley eyes on them to look like ghosts. I used to look down on parents who kept their kids artwork. Now my heart melts and I want to keep it forever. He was so proud of it, he didn't even want to let it go. I want to keep it under my pillow and kiss it every night, it means that much to me already!
This is the pumpkin we carved last night. Our little Jack Skellington. Ok, 'we' didn't carve it. It was 10:30 at night and Colbs was already in bed. I just want some love and validation, because I had to carve it with a steak knife! It was hard!

And Colby this morning. This is the funnest of his Halloween outfits so far this year. This is not his costume! Nope, Grandma M bought this just for fun. Today Colbs is going to a Halloween carnival and I wanted him to be all decked out!

More Halloween pics tomorrow! Maybe even with a better camera. Haha, we'll see.

What will you be, ten years from now?

I often sit and think about Colby's main personality traits, and I wonder and sometimes hope (and sometimes dread!) that they're going to stick around.

Colby is so extremely cautious. He loves to stand, and cruise around furniture, but he will not let go of them to walk. He'll reach, stretching until he touches the next item, and will then walk to it. Its so funny to see him nearly topple over trying to stretch so far, but he will not let go of his safe spot. Often I encourage him to get his confidence up, and he's slowly getting it. It makes me wonder if he'll always be so cautious. He was late to roll and crawl, because he was scared. Will he be shy at school? Will he always be afraid to try new things?

And then there's the fact that he loves computers, video games, telephones. Man, am I destined to raise a tech geek?

Colby is also set on copying his daddy. Everything daddy has, he wants. Everything daddy does, he does. Sometimes I get bothered that he's so much like his daddy. But secretly, I'm glad. Daddy is such a strong, patient, loving man and I want Colby to be 100% like him.

And my biggest worry... he's such a lover boy. He will cuddle on you all day if you let him. He'll just throw himself at you for a hug, and presses his cheeks up to your lips for a kiss. He pats your back and squeezes you tight. ...uhm, it better not be like this at school! My son, the class flirt. Could you imagine? I would be pulling out my hair!

But then again his daddy was like that too, LOL.

1 cake. 1 Colby. Equals mess.

Birthday pictures from his first birthday first party (he has another this weekend...) He loved it! He loved playing with the Balloons and being passed from one adoring relative to another. And boy did he like the cake. :)

(cakes courtesy of our dear friend, Emily. How adorable are those? P.S. She'd love to make one for you too!)

Our little family, so cute!

Zoo trip... oooh is that a kitty?

For his birthday, we took the Colbster to the zoo for the first time in his short existence. At first, he wasn't all that impressed. He kept gazing more at the leafs rather than the actual animals. But in an hour or two, he was loving it!
He learned a super cute trick. When you raise your finger and say "Colby how old are you?" He'll lift up his tiny finger to show one! It made my heart melt. :)
He thought he was the coolest pushing his own stroller.

Look, its identical boys, just with a 20 something age difference. They both have the same eyebrow raise and everything.
Here he starts getting into the animals.

A random gorilla that was showing off its potato sack shawl. So pretty.

And why did he get so excited to see all the animals? Because they were 'kitties". He would point at each one saying over and over, saying "kitty."

Ok, yeah, technically this is a kitty, so I'll give it to him.
At least there's 'cat' in the word meercat.

.... uhm, not quite.
Yeah, not even close.

His favorite 'kitty'? This porcupine. He stood there jabbering at it.

He had a very awesome birthday!
